Not South American (Canada, USA, Europe, and Israel)

1. Bibi La Crème-Strict Tempo-Manibelle $40

A Waxing Deep classic and a wonderful oddity from Quebec, it’s a ballroom dancing record customised for individual dancing studios with a left-field bossa and an accordion driven samba. For those into this sound, it’s heat. Needless to say, rare. Vinyl is NM; the jacket is clean. Sample

2. D’Yvon Ouazana et Jean-Pierre Festi-Hi-Fi Performance-Able $45

A classic, obscure break record that also offers solid Euro funk. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket has minor ringwear. Sample

3. Exile One-s/t-Barclay $25

Island funk by way of France on the deep “Dominican Strut” with a couple of other solid tunes. Vinyl is NM; the jacket has minor scuffing.Sample

Oops! I dropped my camera and now it doesn't take pictures. Please forgive my clumsiness.

4. Les Nouvaux Jaguard-s/t $60

Rare funky psych form an obscure Quebec band. Heavy. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket has minor scuffing. Sample

5. Ted Moses and The Mother Necessity Big Band-More Than Ever-CBC $50

Ted Moses post-'Sidereal Time' sounding much closer to his private-press LP than 'Sidereal Time' on the much ballyhooed CBC label. Includes some very beautiful fusion. Vinyl is still sealed. Sample

6. Various-Disco Gold-Sceptre $25

Disco compilation featuring two Patti Jo tracks produced by Curtis Mayfield, “Make Me Believe in You” and “Ain’t No Love Lost”. Both are stellar. This album is no longer easy to find. Vinyl is NM-; the gatefold jacket has moderate ringwear and scuffing and a tear form a removed price tag. Sample

7. George Shearing-The Way We Where-MPS $15

A Latin effort from Shearing sought after for the break on “Aquarius” but also very good album. Shearing’s versions of “Eleanor Rigby” and “Killing Me Softly” are fantastic. Absolutely worth the price. Vinyl is NM; the jacket is clean. Sample

8. Paul Bailargeon-Viens, Mon Amour-Gap $375

An indescribable amount of work went into sourcing this sealed copy of what is truly one of the world’s great OSTs. I didn’t get multiples from the artists! I have only the one copy so don’t assume there’s a pile of them sitting under my bed; this is very likely the only sealed copy in existence. Listen to the samples to understand why this record enjoys grail status for so man and, if you’re still curious, you can listen to an interview with the composer on my website under ‘music’. A VG+ copy just traded hands for $300, so this priced fairly. Sample

9. Paul Bailargeon-Cagol 9-Gap $250

No one in Quebec has ever found this single; they all come from Alberta and there are only a half-dozen known copies. Gap records were pressed in tiny numbers in Quebec and until recently no one had any idea the label pressed a single; even the distributor was surprised. The tracks are taken from the ‘Viens, Mon Amour’ OST but the sound is far superior to the LP and much louder. Brilliant material. Vinyl is NM. Sample

10. William St. Clair-Organ Grinder-Advana $25

Tiny label discofunk for the collectors of the rare ‘bloodshitters’. Vinyl is NM; the jacket is clean and still in the OG plastic (I got it sealed and opened it to check for warps).

11. Keith Mansfield-s/t-Pronit $30

Organ funk from Mohawk front man Mansfield with a classic break, the dancefloor cuts “Boogaloo” and “Soul Thing”, a nice version of “Moanin’”, and a couple of other solid cuts. One of those records that used to be expensive and now costs what it’s worth. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket has some scuffing.

12. Patsy Gallant-Upon My own-Columbia $15

Canadian funk rock. Quite hard to find. Vinyl is VG+; the jacket has taped seems and moderate ringwear.Sample

13. Les Hu-Lops-s/t-CanUSA $50

Super rare, super funky Quebec garage with the huge cut “Love”—a Waxing Deep classic! Vinyl is VG with surface noise in the first seconds of the opening cuts (like every copy of this album I’ve heard); the jacket has scuffing. Sample

14. Luc & Lise Cousineau-Laisse Un Temps À L’Amour-Polydor $30

Fast fusion with scat vocals on “Quebec Nucleaire”. Hardly exists outside of Quebec. Vinyl is NM-; the gatefold jacket has a scuffing and minor water damage. Sample

15. Tex Lecor-Sous Mon Toit-Gamma $20

Quebec funk rock with the nice organ cut arranged by Paul Baillargeon (of Viens Mon Amour fame). Vinyl is NM; the jacket is clean. Sample

16. Navy Ensemble-?-Hed Arzi $45

Funk 45s? So five years ago. Modern Soul? Yesterday. Today it’s all about Israeli military bands and let me tell you, friends, they rock (in Yiddish!). Based on this music it’s clear dropping acid was a part of basic naval training. Listen to this freakout and tell me if you don’t want to sign-up and patrol the Mediterranean (or whatever it is the Israeli navy does). Vinyl is NM; the jacket is clean. Sample

17. Nick Ayoub-Super Danse-Franco-Elite $40

“Bossa Me” is a Quebec classic, a truly lovely tune, and an overlooked part of Nick Ayoub work. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket is clean. Sample

18. Peter Appleyard-Sophisticed Vibes-CTL $15

Disco-light, bossa-light and light instrumental-light courtesy of Appleyard on the collectable Canadian Talent Library label. The saving grace is “Who Needs It”, a very strong jazzfunk tune. Not a common record. EXTRA BONUS: Pete autographed the jacket!!!!! Vinyl is NM; the jacket is clean. Sample

19. Various-Les Thème Du 10-Deram $45

This is a rare collection of television themes from Quebec with a massive library funk cut from Georges Trembles—heat! Additionally, there’s quite a bit of material for the sampler. This is one of those records that have practically disappeared from Quebec, so don’t sleep. Vinyl is NM-; jacket has moderate ringwear. Sample

20. Les Lutin-En Orbite Vol. 2-Carrousel $80

Highest Recomendation! Quebec heat and huge Waxing Deep classic. The track is “La Junglomanie”, a super raw, extra dirty slice of garage funk that begins with a Coke style break. Guaranteed success on the dancefloor. This is a very rare album, particularly in this pristine condition and highly coveted by garage collectors. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket is clean with a punch-out hole. Sample

21. Moe Koffman-Museum Pieces-GRT $20

This is the Koffman record the good break, but it also has some excellent fusion. Made for Toronto’s Royal Ontario Museum, this is one of ht rarer Koffman albums. Vinyl is NM; the jacket has minor ringwear. Sample

22. Martin Stevens-La Derniere Fois-Pirate $25

Hugely obscure Quebec disco 12”. Check the mp3 and vibe to the cuica. Vinyl is NM-; generic 12” jacket. Sample

23. Chagrin D’Amour-Chacun Fait-Pro-Culture $25

Funky French disco rap. Vinyl is NM; the generic 12” jacket is still in shrink. Sample

24. Les Goldies-Goldorak Comme Au Cinema-HS $15

Music from the Goldorak series. Spacy disco and quirky electronics for the sampler. Vinyl is VG+; the gatefold jacket has minor scuffing and a split bottom seam. Sample

 ---------------------

 South America

25. Black Sugar II-s/t-Sono Radio $100

Latin funk, jazz, and psych from Peru. Absolutely classic. Rare in any condition, a copy as clean as this one is a special thing. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket is clean.

26. Invisibles-s/t-Galente $50

Brilliant Argentinean psych! Fans of the Orphée Lp that I sold in the past will love this. The fact that it was recorded just before the rise of the military dictatorship makes it all the more intense. It’s a new personal favourite and perfect record for those smoky late night listening sessions. Vinyl is VG (no clicks or pops); the jacket has taped seems and water damage. Sample

27. Matias Pizaro-Pelo De Raata-Promusica $150US

Highest Recomendation! All I know about this mega-rare Argentinean album is that Pizaro was a Chilean recording in Buenos Aires for a small, independent label. It’s ‘spiritual’ jazz and fusion of the highest calibre, but I’ll let the samples do the speaking. Bliss. The vinyl is VG+ with surface noise at the beginning of the tracks due to a poor pressing on recycled vinyl; the jacket has very minor ringwear.

Sample (the first track last for another five minutes and the second just gets deeper).

28. Papupapa!-s/t-Sonografica $60

This qualifies as the best record ever on the strength of the jacket alone. ‘Papupapa’ is obviously a routine of some sort, but more than this I cannot say. What I can tell you is that this tremendously rare Venezuelan record includes some super heavy, high quality spacey disco alongside some boogie, salsa. I I strongly suspect you’ll be the only one with this record outside of Caracas. Vinyl is NM; the jacket has moderate ringwear and minor scuffing. Sample1 Sample2 Sample3

29. Santa Barbara-Superstar-CBS $40

Rare Argentinean disco soul LP recorded by three people of colour, which is odd because Argentina is, barring what’s left of the indigenous population, a lilywhite country. Thus the absence of any real Argentinean funk. “Cuck-oo” is a hot tune and the other tracks all covers, only two with Spanish lyrics. Vinyl is NM; the gatefold jacket is clean. Sample

30. Camerata-Café Concert-Clave $40

Rare Uruguayan jazz with a bass heavy cover Timons’s “Moanin’” and a nice bossa on Edu Lobo’s “Estatuinha”. Very rare (particularly outside of Montevideo). Vinyl is NM- and the jacket is clean. Sample

31. Oscar Aleman con Jorge Anders-s/t-Redondel $40

Heavy! Backed by the Jorge Anders big band to, Aleman does a deep cover of “Caraven”. The production on this album is fantastic. Quite rare, particularly in this condition. Vinyl is NM; the gatefold jacket is clean.

32. Oscar Aleman-’72-Redondel $20

Good revival jazz from Argentinean guitar virtuoso Aleman. Noteworthy version of “When the Saints Go Marching”. Vinyl is VG+ due to poor quality pressing; the jacket has minor scuffing.

33. Hernan Oliva-Me Vuelves Loco-Redondel $20

Sought-after Argentinean jazz with terribly cool cover-art. Vinyl is VG+; the gatefold jacket has serious water damage is at risk of separating.

34. Manfredo Fest-Evolucion-RGE $15

I may be mistaken, but I believe this is was a Uruguay-only LP; it’s certainly one of Fest’s earliest. Interest versions of Brazilian classic with Fest on the organ. Vinyl is G+; the jacket has a split seam. Sample

35. Gal Costa-India-Philips $30

Includes the classic Brazilian dancefloor cut “Relance” compiled up the yingyang by tastemakers like Gilles Peterson. In case you missed it seven or eight years ago when it was the tune, listen to the sample. Not a one-tracker either; dig “Pontos De Luz”. This album is close to Brazilian music at its very best. Vinyl is NM- and the jacket is clean. Sample

36. Ed Lincoln-A Volta-Musidisc $20US

Classic Ed Lincoln LP with the dancefloor cut “Na Onda Do Berimbau”. Brazilian pressing. I’m nuts for selling this album at this price. Vinyl is VG+ and the jacket is clean.

37. Ed Lincoln-Seu Piano E Seu Orgao Espetacular-Musidisc $15

Ed Lincoln does what he does on this classic LP—play funky organ covers of Brazilian standards like “Só Danço Smaba”, “Influênci Do Jazz”, and so. Vinyl is VG+; the jacket has some scuffing.

38. Escolda De Samba Da Cidade-Batucada-Trova $15

High quality instrumental samba and batucada. Fans of the DJ Greg Caz ‘Viva o Samba!’ mix flip for this. Vinyl is NM; the jacket is clean. Sample

39. Os Ritmistas Brasileiros-Batucada Fantastica-Parnaso $25

One of the best batucada records, it includes the batucada compiled on the second Brazilian Beats, “Samba 2 Andamento”. There are 22 cuts in all, each perfect for spicing up a set or your sampler. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket has minor scuffing, minor ringwear, and a partially split top-seam. Sample

40. Cipo and his authentic rhythm group-Brazilian Beat-London $35

One of the most classic batucada records with unusual and very cool scatting. Wildly popular in Japan some time ago, it’s very good and quite rare. Producers may be interested in the open scatting, which doesn’t come much better. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket is clean. Sample

41. Paulinho Y Su Bateria-Batucada-Philips $30

A superb batucada record with haunting super deep “Sorongo”—a Waxing Deep classic—alongside the regular percussion cuts ideal for the sampler or the dancefloor. Vinyl is NM; the jacket is in a plastic bag. Sample

42. Os Originais Do Samba-O Smaba E A Corda…Os Originais a Caçamba-RCA $40

HEAT! “La Vem Salgueiro” should be illegal! When the batucada chorus comes in the track blows up dancefloors; most recently, Miles Cleret used it to absolutely rock Montreal. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket has minor ringwear. Sample

43. Ornella Vanoni-La Voglia La Pazzia L’Incoscienza L’Allegria-Micsa $20US

“Senza Paura” is a classic, brilliant bossa—the sound of summer breezes, big cocktails, and beautiful people. I never get tired of this track. Vinyl is NM-; the gatefold jacket is clean. Sample

44. Various-Pato C Presenta Afro Soul Boliches-Ariel $20US

Basically, an Argentinean mixtape of boogaloo, Latin rock, and soul on vinyl. You get Ray Barretto’s “Soul Drummers”, Monguito Santamaria’s “You need help”, the LTG Exchanges’ “Corazon”, Joe Bataan’s “Young Gifted & Brown”, and several Ralfi Pagan tunes. It’s a hot mix. DJs, you could put this on during your beer break. Vinyl is VG+; the jacket has moderate scuffing.

45. Agustin Perera Lucena-s/t-Tonodisc $30

Exceptionally beautiful Argentineans bossa with female scat vocals. It’s now very hard to source in Argentina, particularly if you don’t want to buy one from a dealer who wants $60 for a brutalised copy. Vinyl is a very conservative VG condition; the jacket has some pen marks.Sample

46. Elza Soares and Miltinho-Elza Miltinho E Samba-Odeon $40

A superb LP filled with rough sambas and the killer afro-samba “Mal De Amor”—such a hot track! Vinyl is VG+; the jacket is in one of the Odeon plastic bags. Sample

47. Vox Dei-La Biblia-CBS $50US

HEAT! “Genesis” is a wicked Dusty Fingers style psych cut that blows my freakin’ mind! Inhale deeply, listen to this, and fly away. Producers: you absolutely need this beat for your sampler. Long live Rock Nacional! Double vinyl is NM; the gatefold jacket is clean. NOTE: this is not the first pressing. The album was first pressed in mono on an independent label, became relatively popular, and was picked up by CBS and pressed in Stereo. The first pressing sounds like doodoo and unless you’re serious about collecting your Argentinean rock, you want the CBS edition. If you do want the OG, let me know and I’ll try and hook you up. Sample

48. Elis Regina-Elis-Philips $50

This 1966 LP includes the super classic “Roda”, a massive dancefloor burner and truly a brilliant piece of music. If you haven’t heard it on any one of a gazillion compilations, dig the mp3. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket is clean. Sample

49. Elis Regina-Ela…-Philips $20

I may be alone here, but this is one of my favourite Elis LPs. I love “Mundo Deserto” and there are also a handful of other top-drawer tracks on the album. And the price is cheap. Vinyl is NM-; the plastic bag jacket has moderate ringwear (whatever that means for a plastic bag). Sample

50. Elis Regina and Jai Rodrigues-Dois Na Bossa-Philips $10

Strong Version of “Upa Neguinha”. Vinyl is VG+; jacket has taped seams. Sample

51. Wilson Simonal-S’imbora-Odeon $10

Classic Simonal from 1965 with some particularly good cuts (“Lenda”, “Ladeira Do Pelourinho”). Vinyl is VG and entirely playable; the plastic bag containing the jacket is scuffed.

52. Wilson Simonal-Alegria Alegria 3-Odeon $20

This is the third LP in the classic Alegria Alegria series. Once upon a time I sold this for over $100; now I offer it a far more reasonable price. Vinyl is NM-; the plastic bag jacket appears to have minor ringwear.

53. Wilson Simonal-Alegria Alegria 4-Ariel $25

An Argentinean pressing of the last LP in the Alegria Alegria series. Hot tracks including the play-out “Maquilagem”. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket has taped seams.

54. Maria Cruza-Live-Rca $75

Highest Recomendation! HEAT! This live album was pressed and released only in Argentina and features the blazing instrumental “Aza Branca” and the ridiculous “Macumba” sung in Castellano. Brazilian dancefloor tracks at their best. You need to listen to the mp3s; this is a scorching hot record that, since being ‘discovered’ in the past couple of years, has become very difficult to find in Argentina and is already on lists for 170 Euros. Don’t sleep! Vinyl is NM-; the jacket is clean. Sample

55. Vinicius De Moraes & Maria Creuza & Toquinho-La Fusa-Trova $15

An underappreciated Argentina-only bossa LP with a jaw-dropping version of “Consolação” and “Canto De Ossanha”. It’s becoming increasingly rare, as well; a year ago I left Argentina with a dozen, this year I found only three clean copies. Waxing Deep classic. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket is clean. Sample

56. Baiano & Os Novos Caetanos-Vô Batê Pá Tu-MH $10

An excellent funky samba rock with fantastic cover art! It’s a solid listen throughout and almost as good as quite a few Brazilian records that cost five or six times as much. Vinyl is VG; the jacket has split seams and scuffing. Sample

57. Titanic-Los Más Grandes Éxitos De-Epic $10

An Argentinean best-of, it includes a good number of the hits—“Sultana”, “Rain 2000”, “Santa Fe”. Vinyl is VG+; jacket has taped seams.

58. Various-Los Maximos Del Brasil-Orfeo $10

This is a collection of Brazilian hits sung in Castellano for the Spanish market. The best cut is Wando’s dancefloor anthem “Nega Do Obaluae”, compiled on the second Brazilian Beats comp and sung here as “Negra De Obaluae”. There’s also Wando’s “Chega Mais” and a couple of Bebeto tracks. Vinyl is NM; the jacket has moderate ringwear. Sample

59. Buenos Aires Jazz Fusión-s/t-Interdisc $45

I’m pleased to be offering this fantastic and still largely unknown recording from Ruben Lopez First (‘Jazz Argentino’, the hugely expensive ‘Jazz en La Universidad’) alongside the best of Argentinean jazzmen, including Chivo Borraro and Rubén Rada. There are two standout tracks, “Telmo San”, heavy on the fusion tip, and the beautiful seven minute epic “Tema Para Trane” where Borraro absolutely shines. Jazz collectors take note! Vinyl is NM; the gatefold jacket is clean. Sample

60. Os Caretas-Samba é Uma Parada-Polyfar $15

Massive version of “Maracatu Atômico” for the DJs. Vinyl is NM; the jacket has minor ringwear. Sample

61. Giorgio Scarpinelli-Disco Tango-Philips $30

You think Gotan Project were the first to fuse tango and dance music? Ha! Giorgio Scarpinelli and his boys were doing it twenty years earlier in the disco clubs of Buenos Aires (and any number of artists were bringing tango to jazz and rock many years before). So maybe this isn’t super brilliant, but there are a couple of tracks that are actually quite strong. There’s even an excellent cover of Jorge Lopez Ruiz’s “Marietta”. Still, I can’t help but think that the poor bandoleone players saw this as a dark day for tango. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket is clean. Sample

62. La Paranda-s/t-Paranda $40

FANTASTIC WEIRDNESS! What an insane record! It seems to be from a group of Panamanian teetotallers but I get the sense these fellows traded in their booze for something a whole lot stronger. This has wonkiest Latin lounge instrumentals with all sorts of weird experimental electronics—it’s just too cool. Throw away your beer, drop a tab, and listen to the samples. Vinyl is VG; the jacket tapes seams and minor ringwear. Sample

63. Rodolfo Medero-Generacion Cero-Diorama $50

Progressive tango? A cult LP infamous for its fusion of prog with tango. Rare. Vinyl is a very strong VG (no pops or clicks, minor surface noise—the sample gives a fair indication of what to expect); jacket has minor scuffing). Sample

64. La Joven Guardia-El Extraño Del Pelo Largo-RCA $40US

Rare Argentinean beat with a break. Vinyl is VG- (many surface marks, some his, very few clicks or pops); the jacket has some scuffing.Sample

65. Seru Giran-Bicicleta-SG $20

Funky Argentinean rock and fusion. Vinyl is VG+; the jacket has moderate ringwear and scuffing. Sample

66. Los Querido-Volar-RCA $45

HEAT! Obscure Argentinean cult band (with a hot break track) that, according to a fat man sitting beside me on the Buquebus to Montevideo, killed themselves in Spain. This seems odd to me, because they all sound so happy. Listen to the mp3s—this stuff is hot. Vinyl is VG; plastic bag jacket is clean. Sample

67. Conexion No 5-s/t-VIK $20

Excellent and rare flower power pop from Argentina. Vinyl is VG-; the jacket is clean.

68. Los Delfines-Estamos Seguros-London $40

Hans Pokora gives this Uruguayan psych masterpiece 4 discs and his special and “The Masterpiece of Music” rating. Too bad it’s only G+; the jacket has split seams and some scuffing.

69. Los Brios-s/t-EMI $20

Excellent, little-know Uruguayan psych. Vinyl is VG-; the plastic bag jacket is a little scuffed.

70. Jorge Lòpez Ruiz 5-De Prepo-Ten $250

Highest Recomendation! A truly sublime album; the hype is utterly deserved. It's also impossibly rare, particularly in this stunning condition. If you want more info, there's a very informative essay on the whatmusic.com website. Vinyl is NM-; the jacket has very minor scuffing.

71. Bombers-s/t-Telson $10

A Canadian break record with a weird version of ‘The Mexican”. Sample

Sample

Sample
